For the past 8 years, I have been working with, among other things, the Kransnaaldaar, a highly adhesive type of grass that I happened to discover in our garden in the South of France.

Using a rolling technique I developed, I can create volume. For some time now, I’ve been thinking about scaling up the TapeWorks Nanos. I find it intriguing to create objects that can have more impact through scaling. I once made a prototype out of cardboard, treated with the same coating as the Nanos. The “look and feel” were consistent with those of the TapeWorks Nanos, but it didn’t feel right, because I want to stick to using painter’s tape. With seeds, I think scaling up is possible. This allows me to remain true to my choice of materials and build upon the TapeWorks.

With the rolling technique, the seeds aren’t immediately visible, but they’re omnipresent due to the size and rhythm of the rolls/ears and the seeds falling onto the floor. The fact that they aren’t immediately visible has a major advantage: I can use seeds from previous harvests without worrying about discoloration. Given the number of Nanos, this could develop into a series. I call them Decas, as a counterpart to the Nanos. Dimensions of the first Deca: 100 x 100 cm, height 30 cm

Sinds 8 jaar werk ik o.a. met de Kransnaaldaar, een sterk klevende grassoort die ik toevallig heb ontdekt in onze tuin in Zuid Frankrijk.

Met een door mij ontwikkelde roltechniek kan ik volume creëren. Al langer denk ik na over een schaalvergroting van de TapeWorks Nano's. Ik vind het intrigerend om objecten te maken die door schaalvergroting meer impact kunnen krijgen. Ooit maakte ik een prototype van karton, behandeld met dezelfde coating als de Nano's De 'look and feel' waren conform die van de TapeWorks Nano's, maar het voelde niet goed, omdat ik wil vasthouden aan het gebruik van schilderstape. Met zaden denk ik dat de schaalvergroting wel kan. Hiermee blijf ik trouw aan mijn materiaalkeuze en bouw ik voort op de TapeWorks.

Bij de roltechniek zijn de zaden niet direct zichtbaar, maar alom aanwezig door de maat en het ritme van de rolletjes/aren en de loslatende zaden op de vloer. Het feit dat ze niet direct zichtbaar zijn, heeft een groot voordeel: ik kan zaden van eerdere jaargangen gebruiken zonder last te hebben van verkleuring. Gezien de hoeveelheid Nano’s kan dit uitgroeien tot een serie. Ik noem ze Deca’s, als tegenhanger van de Nano’s. Maat 1e Deca : 100 x 100 cm, hoogte 30 cm
